Northeast Forestry University is a national key university featuring forestry engineering, directly under the Ministry of Education, a national "2 1 1 Engineering" and "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", and a national world-class discipline construction university.

The school campus covers an area of 136 hectares, with teaching, research and practice bases such as Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm (Maoershan National Forest Park) and Liangshui Experimental Forest Farm (Liangshui National Nature Reserve), with a total area of 33,000 hectares.

Northeast Forestry University was founded in July, 1952, formerly known as Northeast Forestry College. It was established on the basis of the Forestry Department of Zhejiang University Agricultural College and the Forestry Department of Northeast Agricultural College, and was directly managed by the former State Forestry Department.
