History of the University of Virginia
When it comes to the history of the University of Virginia, we have to mention the history of its founder. The University of Virginia was founded in 18 19. The founder was one of the drafters of the American Declaration of Independence, and graduated from the famous William and Mary College, Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States. Jefferson was studious, versatile and had a wide range of interests. He is not only the founder and president of American democracy, but also the vice president, secretary of state and ambassador to France. He is also a land surveyor, architect, paleontologist, philosopher, phonologist and writer. He knows Latin, Greek, French, Spanish and Italian. He is also interested in mathematics, agriculture and architecture, and even the violin. People call him the most talented and versatile president of the United States.

Jefferson wrote many things in his life, covering a wide range of issues. Later generations published his anthology in 20 volumes in memory of him. As an outstanding representative of American bourgeois democrats, Jefferson is as famous as Washington and Lincoln. He felt the religious influence of American universities on education at that time, and wanted to establish an independent and innovative university independent of religion, so he joined hands with Mr. james madison, a close friend who later became the fourth president of the United States. 1788, Mr. Madison bought the land where the University of Virginia is located; 18 17, the school held a groundbreaking ceremony under the auspices of Mr. Jefferson; 18 19 The school obtained a university license from the Virginia government. When the school began to enroll students on 1825, it was the first university in the United States to offer all elective courses for students, and it was also the first university to separate education from church at that time. Mr Jefferson became the first principal, and then Mr Madison became the second principal of the school. Of all the universities in the United States, only the University of Virginia has had two presidents.

To commemorate this great president,1On June 26th, 934, the US Congress passed a resolution to allocate 3 million dollars to build the Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal Lake in Washington, D.C., and set up a special committee for this purpose. Even the smoke-filled World War II did not stop the construction of the Jefferson Memorial. 1943 April 13 is the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birth. The Jefferson Memorial Hall was built and opened to the public, and now it has become a famous tourist attraction in Washington.
