First, the predecessor of the school is different.

1, Hunan Normal University: Founded in 1938, it is the first independent national normal college in China. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the National Teachers College was merged into Hunan University. 1In August, 953, the national departments were adjusted, Hunan University was abolished, and Hunan Normal University was established. 1984, the school was renamed Hunan Normal University.

2. Hunan University: Hunan University originated from Yuelu Academy and was founded in 976. After the changes of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, a new college current affairs school was established in 1897, and Yuelu College was merged and transformed into a Hunan higher education school in 1903.

Hunan Normal University was founded in 19 12. Hunan University was founded in 1926. 1949 In September, the National Hunan University was renamed Hunan University. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Comrade Mao Zedong wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting. In 2000, Hunan University and Hunan University of Finance and Economics merged to form a new Hunan University.

Among them, there are 3 academicians of China Academy of Sciences (including 2 double-hired academicians), 3 academicians of China Academy of Engineering (including 2 double-hired academicians), 5 academicians of European Academy of Sciences 1, 5 members of the State Council Discipline Appraisal Group, 9 candidates of Changjiang Scholar Award Scheme and 4 national teaching teams.

2. Hunan University: As of May 2020, there are more than 4,000 faculty members in the school, including 2 140 full-time teachers, 2 academicians 12, 6 members of the discipline evaluation group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, 28 scholars of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 3 national teachers' awards and 65,438 "Changjiang Scholars".
