Beijing university of chemical technology, formerly known as Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in 1958. It is a high-level university established in New China to "train advanced chemical technicians needed for the development of frontier science".

As a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a key construction unit of the national "2 1 1 Project" and "985" dominant discipline innovation platform, and a national "first-class discipline" construction unit, beijing university of chemical technology shoulders the mission of cultivating high-level innovative talents, basic and forward-looking scientific research and original high-tech development.

The school has 17 colleges, with more than 5400 full-time undergraduates/kloc-0, more than 8500 graduate students (including doctoral students 1300), more than 2200 continuing education students such as correspondence and night university, and more than 360 international students with academic qualifications.
