In 2008, a candidate in Jiangxi was admitted to a "2 1 1 engineering" university, and dropped out of school and went home automatically within a few months. What's going on here? Let's listen to his self-report:
The reason for applying for this school is that it belongs to "Project 2 1 1". Unexpectedly, after I entered the school, I found that it was formed by the merger of several schools, and the architecture major I studied was just a very ordinary school. Both the campus environment and student management are different from the university I imagined, and I live outside, three or four miles away from the school. Like a day student, I didn't feel the atmosphere of any key university at all. When I went home during the National Day holiday and chatted with my classmates in other colleges and universities, I realized that the electronic design course in other schools was a computer, while in my school, 10 people used one. The specialty of civil architecture has a history of more than 30 years, and graduates are very popular with employers, but the specialty didn't exist in my school ten years ago, so others didn't know it at all. I feel particularly unbalanced psychologically. I am more than 40 points higher than them in the college entrance examination. So as soon as I returned to school during the National Day holiday, I applied to the school to drop out.
Look, it's all caused by "2 1 1 project"!
So, what exactly is a "2 1 1 engineering" university? Let's take a look at the "red-headed documents" first. Official website, the Ministry of Education, described it this way: "The' 211Project' colleges and universities are about 100 colleges and universities that China has decided to focus on in order to implement the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and meet the challenges of the new technological revolution in the world. The proposal, planning, design and implementation of this project were carried out under the direct care and guidance of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Its fundamental purpose is to cultivate and accumulate high-quality backbone talents needed by all walks of life for the development of China in the 2 1 century, to solve major scientific and technological problems in economic construction and social development, to make China's higher education occupy a place in the world, and to make a number of institutions of higher learning and some key disciplines enter the world's advanced level. "
This "red-headed document" was published in 1995, and it has been more than ten years. During this period, great changes have taken place in the pattern of colleges and universities in China (every year, some schools are renamed, relocated, upgraded, merged and the competent units are changed, etc.). ), and the number of colleges and universities applying to be selected as "2 1 1 Project" is increasing one after another, which leads to more and more misunderstandings among many people. In order to let the students know the true face of "2 1 1 project", I classify all kinds of misunderstandings into the following four categories:
Myth 1: prestigious school = "project 2 1 1"
What is a "famous brand"? In the words of ordinary people, a famous brand is a famous brand. Just like brand-name household appliances and brand-name clothing, famous universities are household names among the majority of candidates; It is well known among employers. It should be a university with a long history, strong teachers, excellent teaching quality and strong learning atmosphere among similar universities in China. Although most of the famous schools are "Project 2 1 1", some famous schools have failed to enter, considering the affiliation of institutions, regional distribution, overlapping industries, and even the area occupied and the scale of running schools. At present, the well-known universities are not "Project 2 1 1", but mainly Beijing Foreign Studies University, Capital Medical University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, China Conservatory of Music, China Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing Film Academy and Beijing Dance Academy. These institutions are all big-name institutions in the national industry, which can be described as well-known and famous.
Myth 2: National Key University = "Project 2 1 1"
First of all, the state has never defined what is a "national key university", but only listed some schools as "key construction" at different times. These key construction institutions have different standards in different periods, and the number changes at any time. For example, 1954 has 6; 1959 has 1 1, and 48 were added in the 1960s. There are 88 1978, which increased to 98 in the 1980s. It was also called "2 1 1 project" in the 1990s. There were more than 80 at first, and then there were more than 100. Soon, the "985 Project" appeared. At first 10 was over, and now it's around 40. I'm afraid even experts can't explain the so-called key universities that are constantly "advancing with the times" and changing endlessly. No wonder, in 2004, on the National College Admissions Consultation Network, the Student Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education publicly answered the candidates' questions and said, "Now the state has no clear definition of key universities."
Some universities that were once "key construction" but not "2 1 1 project" now include Xiangtan University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Yanshan University, China Medical University and Southern Medical University.
In addition, students should not think that "2 1 1 project" is a national key institution. In fact, Jin 1/5 "Project 2 1 1" is a local key institution. For example, Shanghai University, Zhengzhou University, Inner Mongolia University, Xinjiang University, Guangxi University, Yunnan University, Fuzhou University, Liaoning University, Yanbian University, Guizhou University, Hebei University of Technology, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Hunan Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, Tianjin Medical University, Taiyuan University of Technology, etc. Most of these institutions recruit local candidates every year, and the influence of students' employment and popularity recognition is limited to local provinces.
Misunderstanding 3: Ministries and universities = "Project 2 1 1"
In the existing "2 1 1 project" list, most of them are ministries and universities, but it does not mean that all ministries and universities are "2 1 1 project". In particular, other ministries and universities directly under the Ministry of Education have not entered the "2 1 1 project" sequence, even in ordinary universities.
At present, the institutions affiliated to ministries and commissions are not "Project 2 1 1": Foreign Affairs College, Institute of International Relations, Beijing Institute of Electronic Technology, Beijing Sport University, beijing language and culture university, China Youth Politics College, China Women's College, China Institute of Labor Relations, People's Public Security University of China, China Criminal Police College, Central Judicial Police Officer College, civil aviation university of china, China Civil Aviation Flight College, Dalian University for Nationalities and Southwest University for Nationalities.
Most of these institutions have special majors or industries. Although it is not "project 2 1 1", it is well-known in their respective industries. When enrolling students every year, their scores in the corresponding batches are relatively high. Individual colleges even go as far as famous schools.
Myth 4: The first batch of undergraduate courses = "2 1 1 project "
At present, all provinces and cities in China adopt the "batch admission method", and most provinces and cities recruit undergraduate students in four batches: the first batch is military and political colleges; The first batch are national and provincial key universities; The second batch is ordinary undergraduate colleges; The third batch are newly-built state-owned private "independent colleges" and private universities in recent years.
Because the first batch of key universities, some people mistakenly think that they are all "2 1 1 projects". In fact, dozens of the first batch of universities in each province are not included in the "2 1 1 project". Most of these colleges are comprehensive colleges and normal colleges in this province. For example, Henan University, Ningbo University, Qingdao University, Guangzhou University, Shantou University, Heilongjiang University, Capital Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, Northwest Normal University, Shandong Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology and Nanjing Forestry University.
In addition, "2 1 1 project" colleges and universities may not all be admitted to a batch of undergraduate courses, because some "2 1 1 projects" are evaluated by the state in a comprehensive way, especially those in remote provinces, which are caring and far less powerful than those in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. For example, Qinghai University, Ningxia University, Hainan University, Tibet University and Shihezi University. , just promoted to "2 1 1 project", when enrolling students in municipalities directly under the central government and economically developed provinces, it is difficult for even two schools to recruit enough people.
