Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry was founded in 1977, formerly the Ministry of Light Industry, and 1998 was placed under the Henan Provincial People's Government. The school is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Henan Province and the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, a key characteristic university in Henan Province, and a pilot university with international characteristics in Henan Province.
The school firmly adheres to the socialist orientation, adheres to the school motto spirit of "easier said than done" and the school spirit of "simple, pragmatic and solid", takes root in the Central Plains, gives full play to its advantages and features, and makes positive contributions to the high-quality development of the country, localities and industries. The school has scientific campus, Dongfeng campus and Yuzhou practice training base, covering an area of more than 2,200 mu. There are more than 2,200 faculty members and more than 30,000 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates.
There are 2.45 million Chinese and foreign paper books and 86 1000 e-books, and the "National Demonstration Digital Archives" has been established, and it has been rated as a demonstration school for smart campus construction in Henan Province.
The strategy of strengthening the school with talents continued to advance. It has five academicians from Canadian Academy of Engineering, Norwegian Academy of Sciences, European Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Communications and Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, and employs six academicians as discipline strategic scientists. Set up 2 national scientific and technological innovation teams, 37 provincial scientific and technological innovation teams and 1 1 provincial teaching teams.
The characteristics of disciplines and specialties are gradually highlighted. Henan Province has three characteristic backbone disciplines, namely, food science and engineering, intelligent manufacturing of electrical equipment and hydrogen energy science and technology, and 18 provincial key disciplines. Engineering, chemistry, materials science and agricultural science are among the top in ESI global rankings 1%. There are 2 doctoral degree authorization points and 30 master degree authorization points in the first-level discipline, and the doctoral students are jointly trained with famous universities at home and abroad 10.

There are five national majors, five professional comprehensive reform pilot majors, and six "excellent engineer education and training plan" pilot majors of the Ministry of Education. In the first professional evaluation in Henan Province, 18 was ranked first and second among universities in Henan Province.
