Xi 'an University of Technology, located in Xi 'an, was founded in 1949 when the people's government took over the National Beiping Advanced Industrial Vocational School. Its predecessor was Shaanxi Institute of Machinery, which was formed by the merger of Beijing Institute of Machinery and Shaanxi University of Technology in 1972, and was renamed xi 'an University of Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 1994. 1998 the school was assigned to Shaanxi province by the Ministry of Mechanical Industry. In 2002, Shaanxi Province approved the merger of xi 'an Instrument Industry School into Xi 'an University of Technology.
