Relocation of Tangshan Institute of Technology, Guizhou Branch of Jiaotong University.
1937 After the July 7th Lugouqiao Incident broke out, Tangshan Institute of Technology of Jiaotong University (now Southwest Jiaotong University) was in the summer vacation, and most of the students went home to visit relatives, while Class 1938 led by Professor Wu Jinghu did an internship in railway surveying in Xishan, Beijing. The incident broke out suddenly and the situation was urgent, but at 10, the campus of Tangshan Jiaotong University fell into the clutches of the Japanese aggressors. In that year 1 1 month, Sun Hongzhe, Dean of Peking Union Medical College, died of illness and anger.

Professor Huang Zongheng and Professor Xu negotiated with Li Zhongxiang, Hou Jiayuan and other alumni, and elected Mao Yisheng, an alumnus of 19 16 who just completed the construction of Qiantang River Bridge, as the "elected president". Without the approval of the Ministry of Education, in order not to delay the enrollment work, Mao Yisheng, the president-elect, published a "Dr. Mao Yisheng Enrollment Notice" in the newspaper, which became a rare personal enrollment notice in the history of higher education in China. With the contact of Professor Xu and the strong support of Hou Jiayuan, director of Hunan-Guizhou Railway Bureau, Pei, deputy director and Qingcheng Road, chief engineer (all friends of Tang Academy), Tang Academy resumed its studies in Xiangtan, Hunan. 65438+February 65438+May 5, Tangshan Institute of Technology experienced more than five months of exile and self-reliance, overcame all difficulties, and held the opening ceremony, resumed classes and continued songs at the temporary school site in Xiangtan, Hunan.

Since President Mao Yisheng has not yet arrived at the school, Mr. Pei Alumni, deputy director of Hunan-Guizhou Railway Bureau, served as the temporary principal and presided over the opening ceremony. The teachers and students were very excited, and the slogan "Long live the spirit of Tangyuan" spread all over the school buildings in Xiangtan. The students put up a big slogan: "The seniors love the school so much that the school doesn't die for a reason."

1938 In February, Li, president of Jiaotong University, called Professor Luo to be the president of Tangyuan. In the absence of Professor Luo, he urged Mao Yisheng alumni to act as dean. Mao Yisheng took office in Xiangtan on February 1 1 and was warmly welcomed by teachers and students. They posted a big slogan "Welcome Dr. Mao to revive Jiaotong University". Everyone has more confidence in the future of the school. When Mao Yisheng looked back on his life in his later years, he mentioned three things: students liked to listen to his classes and he was very satisfied; He expressed his appreciation for the rapid construction method of "up and down in one go" pioneered when building the Qiantang River Bridge. He will never forget the hardships of restoring Tang Academy in the Anti-Japanese War. The third refers to the restoration of Xiangtan Tangshan Institute of Technology and its relocation to Pingyue.

At the beginning of the resumption of classes, because many teachers were still stranded in Tangshan, Shanghai and other places, it was difficult for teachers to arrive at the moment, and the shortage of teachers became a problem again. Alumni stepped forward. Alumni such as Wang Juqian, li wenping, Wang Shizhen, Xue and Huang Shouyi, as well as enthusiasts such as Li Zhongmei, Wu Rukang and Yu Yude, who are not alumni but care about Tangyuan, all came to our school to teach. During this period, Dean Mao Yisheng played an important role and quickly dealt with the problem of hiring teachers. Under very difficult conditions, Tangyuan accepted the request of resuming classes from Jiaotong University, and set up the Railway Management Department in Tangyuan according to the order of the Ministry of Education. As the number of students increased after the railway management department moved to Qianjia Lane, Mao Yisheng was busy moving the school to Yangjiatan, Xiangxiang, which was dozens of kilometers away from Qianjia Lane. Commercial loans were given to senior students in the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Hunan University, and they went to Hankou for assistance.

At the end of May, professors Luo, Wu Jinghu and Bei Furu who were stranded in Tangshan all arrived in Xiangtan. Because of Professor Luo's insistence, the Ministry of Education hired Mao Yisheng as the dean of Tangshan Institute of Technology of Jiaotong University.
