History of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences
1960 was founded by Dr. Zhou Ruchuan. At first, there was only dentistry, which was called "Zhongshan Dental College" or "Zhongshan Dental College" for short.

1962, the Department of Medicine was added as "Zhongshan Medical College" for short; Later, the nursing department and the medical technology department were added. The departments of dentistry, medicine and nursing recruit high school graduates, and the dental courses are extended from four years to five years, and the medical courses are extended from four years to five or even six years. The nursing course is three years, with a three-year diploma, and the medical technology department recruits junior high school graduates with a five-year diploma.

1977 was approved to be upgraded to a college and named as "Zhongshan Medical College".

In 2000, affiliated hospitals jumped from "regional hospitals" to "medical centers".

Approved by Taiwan's education department, it was officially renamed as "Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences" on August 1 2006.

At present, the school scale includes 5 colleges (more than 7,500 students) and affiliated hospitals identified as medical centers by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
