Southwest University for Nationalities, formerly known as Southwest University for Nationalities, was founded in July 1950, formally established in June 195 1 year, renamed as Southwest University for Nationalities in April 2003, and was approved by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education in March 20 15.
