Columbia University, officially named new york University in new york, is a world-class private research university located in Manhattan, new york, USA. It is one of the 14 founding institutions in association of american universities and one of the Ivy League schools.
Columbia University was established in 1754 on the basis of the King's Charter issued by King George II of England. It was originally named King's College. 1896 officially changed its name to Columbia University and moved to the present Chenbian Highland Campus. At the beginning of Columbia University, women's degrees were never awarded. After the tenth president of the school proposed that men and women should enjoy the same educational resources, Barnard College was founded in his own name.
