Non-metallic mineral geology and mineral development is one of the supporting fields and research directions of the earliest provincial and ministerial key discipline "Mineral Survey and Exploration" in Southwest University of Science and Technology, and it is also a key research direction with great influence in the field of non-metallic minerals in China. In this field, the Institute of Nonmetallic Minerals uses the theories and methods of modern metallogenic theory, geochemistry and genetic mineralogy to study the geological and geochemical characteristics and metallogenic regularity of nonmetallic deposits. After more than 20 years of research, a number of outstanding achievements have been made in key research fields such as economic geology and metallogenic series of non-metallic minerals, geology and genesis of non-metallic deposits, and development of non-metallic minerals, forming their own characteristics and advantages.
Since the 1980s, the Institute has taken the lead in applying the theories and methods of geochemistry and stable isotope geology to study nonmetallic deposits such as clay deposits in China, and has formed an academic echelon with professors and doctors as academic leaders, and achieved good research results, which has had an important impact on domestic and foreign counterparts and regional economic development. From 1980s to 1990s, the editor-in-chief published several undergraduate teaching materials such as Geology of Nonmetallic Minerals, Exploration and Evaluation of Nonmetallic Minerals.
Earlier in China, the research team put forward and studied the geochemistry of nonmetallic deposits, metallogenic series of nonmetallic deposits and comprehensive utilization of geological bodies, studied a series of nonmetallic mineral resources and their mineral development, and successively completed several provincial-level projects, such as "Study on Geochemistry and Genesis of Kaolin Deposits in Suzhou", "Research on Sino-Canadian Mineral Science Cooperation Funded by Canadian International Development Agency" and "Study on Mechanism of Irradiated Discoloration of Sichuan beryl". He has published monographs such as Geochemistry and Genesis of Kaolin Deposits in Suzhou and Palygorskite in China, published more than 20 papers 120, and won 4 second and third prizes for scientific and technological progress, which has filled many gaps in the research field of nonmetallic minerals in China, and the research level of some projects has reached the domestic leading and international advanced level.
In recent years, in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, under the guidance of Academician Fu, the geochemical behavior of radionuclides and their geochemical barrier characteristics have been studied, with emphasis on the geological and geochemical environment of adsorption and solidification of radionuclides by non-metallic minerals and their waste disposal. Major scientific research projects have been carried out in cooperation, such as "Study on Improvement of Radioactive Ion Exchange Resin Cement Solidification", "Performance Test of Waste Mud and Waste Resin Cement Solidification", "New Type of Al-rich Alkali Slag Zeolite-based Strontium Cesium Radioactive Waste Solidification Material" and "Technology and Am Adsorption Evaluation of Zeolite Alkali Slag Cementitious Material for Radioactive Waste Solidification". In addition, he is also responsible for a series of national and provincial scientific research projects completed and under way. It mainly includes natural science foundation projects: "Study on lattice solidification treatment methods of radioactive elements U, Sr and Cs" and "Interaction mechanism between radionuclides and solidified materials". * * * Published more than 50 academic papers 1 item, won the second prize of military scientific and technological progress1item, and won three provincial and ministerial prizes, and some appraisal projects reached the international advanced or domestic leading level.
The institute has complete testing instruments and equipment for the composition, structure, physical and chemical properties and mineral processing of nonmetallic minerals, which can meet the needs of geological research and mining of nonmetallic minerals.
