According to the new situation of China's higher education development, in order to deepen the teaching reform, improve the teaching quality and meet the needs of the country and society for talent training in the new period, the Ministry of Education promulgated the College English Curriculum Requirements in July 2007 as the main basis for organizing English teaching for non-English majors in colleges and universities. Curriculum Requirements further clarifies the teaching nature of college English: "College English is a teaching system which is guided by foreign language teaching theory, focuses on English language knowledge and application skills, cross-cultural communication and learning strategies, and integrates various teaching modes and methods". At the same time, it also clarifies that the teaching goal of college English is to cultivate students' comprehensive English application ability, especially listening and speaking ability, so that they can communicate effectively in English in future study, work and social interaction. At the same time, with the introduction of this policy, the state has put forward new requirements and goals for college English teaching in the new period, and at the same time, the items and modes of College English Test Band 4 and Band 6 are constantly exploring and innovating. As a result, most textbooks published for many years on the market can no longer meet this new requirement. With a scientific and rigorous attitude and the spirit of "keeping pace with the times and being brave in innovation", our Economic Science Publishing House has compiled this brand-new, functional, three-dimensional college English textbook-A New Comprehensive College English Course for nearly three years.

Compile and write evidence

In the design, compilation and production of this textbook, the definition and description of college English teaching nature, teaching objectives, teaching mode, teaching evaluation, teaching management and college English reference vocabulary in College English Curriculum Requirements and College English Test Syllabus 4/6 are strictly implemented. On this basis, combined with foreign language teaching theory and actual teaching needs, explore and innovate teaching concepts and teaching models, and open up new forms of college English teaching. This textbook is divided into 4 volumes, each with 8 units, and each unit consists of five modules: warm-up, text A, text B, structured writing and cultural focus. These five modules cover the five elements of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation in language learning, and each module is equipped with corresponding notes or exercises, that is, learning is practicing, with vivid forms and illustrations. The compilation of the whole set of teaching materials follows the principles of overall planning, scientific and orderly, and step by step. Through the study of 1 and 2 volumes, students should reach the general requirements in College English Curriculum Requirements and the level required in College English Examination Syllabus 4. Through the study of 3 or 4 volumes, students should reach the higher requirements in College English Curriculum Requirements and the level required in College English Band 6 Examination Outline. At the same time, in order to facilitate students to find and identify, we have marked the vocabulary of Grade 4 and Grade 6 respectively: Grade 4 (★), Grade 6 (▲) and Grade 6 (unlabeled).

Innovation of writing concept

According to the latest college English curriculum requirements, "the change of teaching mode is not only the change of teaching methods and teaching means, but also the change of teaching concept, that is, the change of teaching thought and practice from teacher-centered to student-centered, not only imparting language knowledge and skills, but also paying more attention to cultivating the practical application ability and autonomous learning ability of language. The biggest disadvantage of the existing textbooks in the market is that the content and capacity of the textbooks are out of touch with the actual teaching situation of college English, and the actual English level of non-English majors in colleges and universities and the school schedule are not taken into account. Most of them have difficulties in content and too many schedules, which leads to the regret that students can't grasp the key points in their studies and teachers' teaching can't be arranged as planned. In addition, the existing textbooks are not integrated with CET-4 and CET-6, and the passing rate of CET-4 and CET-6 is the focus of many schools, teachers and students, which leads to the low practicability of the existing textbooks. This set of textbooks published by our Economic Science Publishing House fully takes into account the fact that non-English majors in universities have few class hours and students' English level is generally not high. In the content setting, we pay attention to simple explanation and emphasize the close combination with CET-4 and CET-6. We summarized the material types of CET-4 and CET-6 questions over the years, selected the genres and topics that were tested the most, and determined the unit topics and exercise topic types of each volume in combination with the topics required by College English Curriculum Requirements and CET-4 and CET-6 syllabus.
