Syllabus of Basic Business English
Basic Business English is an elective course for business English majors. In order to guide the teaching of Basic Business English in RTVU, this syllabus is specially formulated. The provisions of the syllabus can be used as the basis for teaching arrangement, textbook compilation and teaching quality inspection.
First, the teaching object
The teaching object of Basic Business English is English majors.
Second, the teaching purpose and requirements
The teaching purpose of this course is to train students to master the basic skills of business English communication, lay a solid foundation for further study of business English professional courses, and become an applied foreign-related business worker who meets the needs of society after graduation.
By studying practical language materials related to business activities, students can be familiar with and master the main business languages and usages, as well as the basic communication skills in contemporary business activities, and have certain ability to engage in international business activities.
Through learning, students should further improve their basic abilities of listening, reading, speaking, writing and translating, and be able to use English correctly and communicate in general business activities.
Basic Business English is divided into Basic Business English (1) and Basic Business English (2), which are offered for two semesters respectively.
The prerequisite course of Basic Business English is a basic English course for English majors (junior college). At the end of this course, students should meet the following requirements:
1. Able to understand telephone, product display, negotiation, conference speech, etc. In general business activities, I have basically mastered the speaker's attitude and intention.
2. Be able to conduct general business activities in basically correct English, such as answering business calls, conducting social activities, displaying products or negotiating prices, preparing for business meetings or speaking at meetings, etc.
3. Be able to lay a good foundation for reading general reports and commentary articles about business activities in major English newspapers and periodicals.
4. Be able to fill in and translate general business information, including booking hotels and filling out forms.
Third, the teaching content and arrangement
This course ***72 hours, 4 credits. It is offered in two semesters, with 2 hours per week per semester.
This course can be selected from a variety of text textbooks and audio-visual textbooks.
The teaching content of Basic Business English should include the main links of general business activities, such as company introduction, answering the phone, arranging business meetings, receiving visitors, arranging travel, product introduction, analyzing competitors, business letters, product display, complaining about products and services, comparing products and prices, negotiating prices and delivery, closing a deal, etc.
Fourth, the problems that should be paid attention to in teaching
1. This course should give full play to the advantages of various media and show students the perceptual knowledge of general business activities in an intuitive way.
2. In the teaching process, we should make full use of the practical business information and cases in the teaching materials, and combine the learned business knowledge with various forms of repeated drills.
3. In the teaching process, we should pay attention to improving students' comprehensive language application ability in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation.
4. Ask students to study written materials carefully and listen to audio-visual materials; Seriously complete the exercises specified in the course; And encourage students to learn to solve various problems independently with the help of reference books.
5. Arrange face-to-face tutoring classes according to learning needs and specific conditions. In remedial classes, teachers can focus on commenting on textbooks and students' writing exercises and carry out oral activities.

The assessment of Basic Business English includes formative assessment and summative assessment.
1. Formative evaluation
The formative assessment of Basic Business English accounts for 30% of the total score of the course, and the score depends on the students' completion of homework, their comprehensive performance in class and their participation in group activities and activities organized by other learning centers. The homework of Basic Business English course should be completed in class and after class, with at least three assignments per semester as the main basis for formative assessment.
2. Final exam
The examination of Basic Business English is conducted according to the requirements of the syllabus, arranged once every semester and organized by the Central Radio and TV University. The content of the final exam is closely combined with the textbooks studied, and the final exam score accounts for 70% of the total course score. The content of the examination includes the communicative competence of business English and the accuracy of using language as stipulated in the syllabus. The examination is based on the specific requirements of each semester specified in this syllabus.
