Jilin Institute of Physical Education was founded in 1958, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province with beautiful environment and distinct seasons. It is the only higher physical education institution in Jilin Province.

In 2004, with the approval of Jilin Provincial People's Government, the former Jilin Provincial Sports School was merged into Jilin Institute of Physical Education. Since its establishment more than 60 years ago, the school has always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, implemented the fundamental task of educating people with moral education, trained tens of thousands of outstanding sports talents at all levels and made important contributions to the development of national and regional sports and economic and social development.

The school has two campuses, Nanling and He Lin, covering an area of 627,000 square meters.
