Perhaps the most noteworthy major is materials and energy. Tsinghua's major in materials science and engineering is a national specialty, a major in the Education and Training Program for Outstanding Engineers of the Ministry of Education, and one of the top ten ace majors in Tsinghua University.

In the latest round of national-level discipline evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education, Tsinghua University's materials discipline was rated as A+. And energy science and engineering ranked first in 20021soft science world professional ranking! The second and third place are Nanyang Technological University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
