Anhui University of Science and Technology is a high-level characteristic university jointly established by Anhui Province and People's Republic of China (PRC) Emergency Management Department, supported by the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions of the country, and implemented by the "Education and Training Plan for Excellent Engineers" of the Ministry of Education. In 2006, the school won an excellent grade in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education. The school covers an area of about 3200 mu.

There are 1 Anhui class I peak disciplines (the only special support), 5 class III peak disciplines, 1 Anhui provincial key disciplines and 7 provincial key disciplines. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, seven disciplines are on the list. It has formed a school-running system with engineering as the main body, safety, geology and mining, blasting and other disciplines as the characteristics, and the coordinated development of engineering, science, medicine, management, literature, economics, law and art.
