Guangzhou University is located at No.230, Zhonghuan West Road, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province.

Guangzhou University is a comprehensive university approved by the Ministry of Education. It is a high-level university in Guangdong Province, a first-class university in Guangdong Province and a high-level university in Guangzhou.

As of July 2020, the school has two campuses, namely University Town and Guihuagang, with a total campus area of 1880 mu and a total construction area of 885,000 square meters. There are 29,788 full-time undergraduates and 4,990 master's and doctoral students. There are 3,206 on-the-job teaching and administrative staff, including 20 18 full-time teaching and research staff.

As of July 2020, there are 27 colleges in the school, covering ten disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. The motto of Guangzhou University is erudite and persistent, advancing with the times. The word "erudite and diligent" originated from the original motto of Guangzhou University before the merger, which was inherited from the motto of private Guangzhou University founded in the Republic of China. The motto of private Guangzhou University evolved from the motto of the former National Guangdong University (later renamed Sun Yat-sen University).
