Main research direction

research field

Marine microbial resources (strains, genes, compounds) and drug discovery

Interest and direction

1. Discovery and large-scale synthesis of natural products of marine microorganisms under the guidance of genomics (partial cooperation): On the basis of understanding the whole genome of microorganisms, explore the diversity of secondary metabolites synthesis of strains and improve the synthesis of target products. The research contents include: ① the whole genome sequencing of microorganisms (isolated from special environment, new taxa and producing new compounds) and the functional annotation of secondary metabolism-related genes; ② Isolation and identification of genes related to the synthesis of medicinal microbial active compounds; ③ Correlation between actinomycetes classification system and synthetic genes of secondary metabolites; (4) regulating the genes related to the synthesis of target compounds to improve the yield; ⑤ Activation of silencing genes and discovery of new secondary metabolites. The purpose is to explore the ability of microorganisms to synthesize natural products.

2. Separation and identification of active compounds of marine microorganisms (actinomycetes) under the guidance of medicinal chemistry (partial cooperation): Through understanding the chemical characteristics and efficacy of existing microbial drugs, from the collected microbial fermentation crude extract library, through chemical novelty, biological activity, secondary metabolic synthesis genes, strains and other aspects, the screening and separation scheme of target compounds was designed to separate, identify and discover new functional molecules of microbial drugs.

3. Isolation and identification of medicinal marine microbial resources (strains, genes) under the guidance of microbial systematics: On the basis of understanding the microbial classification system, the distribution law of medicinal microbial resources in different classification systems was found. Main research contents: ① Isolation and identification of medicinal microorganism (actinomycetes) resources; ② Biological activity detection and screening of metabolites of medicinal microorganisms (actinomycetes) (partial cooperation). ③ biogeography of actinomycetes. The purpose is to explore what kind of microorganisms have drug synthesis potential, and where (environment) do they usually grow?
