The origin of the school name:

The parent body of the college is a key university with a history of more than 100 years: Southeast University, formerly known as Sanjiang Teachers College founded by 1902, renamed as "National Central University" by 1928 on April 24th, and the word "Zhong Da" of Zhong Da College founded by 1998 came from this. In 2003, Liang Xiao CUHK College was transformed into an independent college, named "Chengxian". The word "Chengxian" comes from Chengxian Street in the east of Sipailou Campus of Southeast University.

Chengxian Street: from beijing east road in the north to Zhujiang Road in the south, about 1 km long. In the fourteenth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang wrote that "education is the first priority in governing the country, and education is the foundation of the school", and the school was established at the southern foot of Jilong Mountain (now Jiming Mountain). The following year, it was renamed imperial academy, which was the highest institution of higher learning in Ming Dynasty and one of the largest institutions of higher learning in the world at that time. At that time, people thought that a scholar would become a "saint" after studying in imperial academy, and he could become an official. Therefore, the street that imperial academy students often walk next to imperial academy is called Chengxian Street.
