Mr. Shi is eager to make use of his own advantages and make more contributions to the country and the nation. Since the reform and opening up 40 years ago, China's higher education has made great progress, but there is still a big gap between domestic first-class universities and world-class universities in talent training and scientific research. Shortening these gaps requires exploring mechanism innovation, so West Lake University was established, hoping to train talents for China and build the motherland.

China's high-quality higher education resources are still scarce and the development is very uneven; More than 400 private universities mostly provide technical skills training, which is not commensurate with China's remarkable achievements in the economic and social fields. Inspired by the motto of Tsinghua and the practice of returning to China for many years, I decided to establish a small but sophisticated new research university with a group of like-minded friends: West Lake University.

Mr. Shi is grateful for the 40 years of reform and opening-up, which made him and Qian Qian's millions of dreamers pursue their ideals without hesitation. From the primary school students in Zhumadian to the president of West Lake University, his life course is the epitome of countless strugglers in this era.
