Ucl refers to University College London. The university is a public research university, and is a founding member of the Founding College of London University Alliance, Russell University Group and European Research University Alliance. University College London was founded in1826; 1836, UCL (called "University of London") merged with the later King's College London to form a new university system in London, which was renamed "University College London".
