The school's predecessor is two provincial key technical secondary schools-Mianyang Health School (founded in 1958) and Mianyang School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (founded in 1960). In 2000, the two schools merged to form Mianyang Medical College, a national key middle school. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2006, it was upgraded to a full-time public general medical college.
