In China, astronomy is still a minority major. At present, there are 12 universities offering undergraduate astronomy majors, mainly including Peking University, Nanjing University, Beijing Shanfan University, China University of Science and Technology, Xiamen University, Yunnan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Guizhou Normal University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xihua Normal University and Qiannan Normal University for Nationalities, but their enrollment methods are different.
Enrollment methods of various schools
Peking University enrolls students in two ways: astronomy and science experimental classes. Some schools directly enroll students according to major categories. For example, Nanjing University enrolls students according to the major categories of science experimental classes (mathematical science) every year, and Xiamen University enrolls undergraduates majoring in astronomy under the major categories of physics every year.
However, the strength of education and scientific research in the postgraduate stage is still relatively strong. Tsinghua focuses on theoretical research, Peking University focuses on observation, and Nanjing University has a relatively complete discipline setting and research direction.
According to the results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation and comprehensive strength ranking by the Ministry of Education, the ranking order of astronomical disciplines is Nanjing University, China University of Science and Technology, Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Beijing Normal University.
