Ningxia University, referred to as "Ningda" for short, is located at the foot of Helan Mountain, a famous historical and cultural city with the reputation of "Lake City in the West". It is a comprehensive university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, focusing on literature, science, industry and agriculture. It is a national "2 1 1 Project" and "Midwest" key university, and it is the first batch of universities approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit and train foreign students in China with China government scholarships.

The school covers an area of 2938 mu, and the teaching experimental farm 1695 mu. The school has 2677 faculty members. It enrolls students from 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. At present, there are more than 65,438 full-time undergraduate students, more than 3,300 graduate students, 2,489 ethnic minority preparatory students, nearly 400 overseas students and more than 20,000 students in adult higher education.
