Shandong Institute of Economics, formerly known as Shandong University of Finance and Economics, was founded in 1952. It is the earliest general college of finance and economics in Shandong Province and one of the earliest general colleges of finance and economics in China. 1978 was renamed Shandong institute of economics, becoming the first institution in China to award bachelor's degrees. 1993 became a master's degree awarding unit. In 2009, it was recognized as a project construction unit authorized by doctoral degree.
