Cultural naming of Peiligang
From April, 65438 to April, 0977, eight tombs excavated at Peiligang site for the first time and their unearthed stone tools and pottery were compared with the burial methods, burial customs and unearthed stone tools and pottery in Yangshao culture period, and their characteristics were found to be different. Archaeologists initially thought that Peiligang site was a new ancient cultural relic. 1978, The Neolithic Site of Pei Ligang, Xinzheng County, Henan Province, written by Kaifeng District Cultural Management Association and Xinzheng County Cultural Management Association, was published in the second issue of Archaeology that year, and it was proposed to name Pei Ligang's remains Pei Ligang Culture, but this reference was deleted by the editorial department of Archaeology. This was considered correct by many archaeologists at that time, because the Peiligang site was only a trial excavation and the archaeological data were not sufficient. Before the excavation of Peiligang site. 1976 the site of cishan in Wu' an county, Hebei province has been excavated. Compared with Peiligang site, its materials are of the same sex but different. Some scholars suggest that the two places be named together.

Chen Xu, an archaeologist in the Department of History of Zhengzhou University, published an article entitled "The Origin of Yangshao Culture" in Journal of Zhengzhou University No.4 1978, arguing that the cultural features and characteristics of Pei Ligang and Cishan are different, mainly of the same sex; * * * Homosexuality means the same culture, while differences mean cultural relics in different periods; From the whole cultural outlook, Cishan is more developed than Peiligang; According to carbon 14 dating, the age of Cishan site is later than that of Peiligang site, so it is considered that Peiligang and Cishan are two different types in the same culture, and it is suggested that they be collectively called Peiligang culture for the time being, namely Peiligang type and Cishan type respectively. After Chen Xu put forward this point of view, Yan Wenming, an archaeology major of Peking University History Department, published the article "New Discoveries of Early Neolithic Culture in the Yellow River Basin" in the first issue of Archaeology 1979, and also thought that "Peiligang's artifacts are similar to Cishan" and "it should be classified as an archaeological culture and suggested to be called magnetic mountain culture".

1980, Xu Shunzhan, director of Henan Museum, published On Peiligang Culture in the first issue of Henan Wenbo Newsletter. He also thinks that Peiligang and Cishan are similar in appearance and belong to the same culture, so it should be called Peiligang culture, and magnetic mountain culture is the successor of Peiligang culture. After 1980s, with the continuous excavation of the remains of Pei Ligang and Cishan, the archaeological research on the remains of Cishan and Pei Ligang has deepened. Generally speaking, they belong to two different cultures, which should be called Peiligang culture and magnetic mountain culture respectively. Peiligang culture and magnetic mountain culture belong to the early Neolithic culture, and Peiligang culture is earlier than magnetic mountain culture.
