Hubei University is a provincial-level key comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education. It is a "national first-class university" in Hubei Province and a national "basic capacity building project for universities in the central and western regions".

There are more than 9,000 full-time undergraduates/KLOC-0, and more than 9,500 doctoral and master students. Since 2006, the school has started to implement the "first-class undergraduate education", "graduate education quality improvement plan", "top-notch innovative talents training plan" and "ten-year continuous study plan for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students" to explore the reform of general education and implement the fundamental task of educating people in Lide.

The school has more than 500 teachers/kloc-0, including more than 900 full and associate professors, 230 doctoral supervisors and 926 master supervisors. There are 362 high-level talents at all levels (times), including 72 national talents (times) and 290 provincial and municipal talents (times).

International communication:

In the 1960s, the school began to recruit international students, which can provide scholarships for the China government, international Chinese teachers and the Hubei provincial government.

The school has established academic exchanges, personnel training and scientific research cooperation with more than 150 universities and research institutions in more than 40 countries and regions, established Manchester United College of Hubei University in cooperation with Manchester City University in the United Kingdom, and established three Confucius Institutes (Confucius Classrooms) in cooperation with Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe and Poland.
