Undergraduate students majoring in domestic economics should not only study the required ideological and political courses, general education courses and foreign language courses at the undergraduate level stipulated by the Ministry of Education, but also learn various professional courses and elective courses such as introduction to domestic economics, social psychology, ethics, domestic service regulations, family education, family nutrition, family aesthetics, life consumption guidance and so on. All courses can be studied online, and the student status is valid for eight years.

"The quality of life in Shanghai is inseparable from domestic service," said Professor Qilu, Dean of School of Public Administration, Shanghai Open University. One third of the families in Shanghai are using or need domestic service. Previously, many undergraduates and masters had come to study in domestic economic colleges.

Qilu introduced that Shanghai Kaida University's home economics belongs to academic education, and has accumulated eight years' college home economics teaching experience. The junior college is mainly based on practical teaching, with 76 credits, and the undergraduate course is mainly based on theoretical teaching.

Considering that some "junior college students" are non-domestic majors, practical teaching hours of "7 1+" credits are also arranged in the undergraduate part. In this way, the practical teaching hours of domestic majors and undergraduates are close to the "Filipino maid class", and they have higher professional theoretical literacy and comprehensive cultural quality than the "Filipino maid class".
