Dalian University for Nationalities is located in the coastal city of Dalian, and is affiliated to the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. It is one of more than 1 10 universities directly under the central ministries and commissions, and it is also the only comprehensive national higher education institution located in the northeast and coastal open areas, with the coordinated development of engineering as the main body. The school was established in 1984 with the approval of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Dalian Municipal Government.
The school's industrial design and network engineering were approved as the first batch of first-class undergraduate education demonstration majors in Liaoning Province. The school has two campuses, Development Zone and Jinshitan, covering an area of 1.600 mu.
