Yuelu Academy, located at the foot of the beautiful Yuelu Mountain on the west bank of Xiangjiang River in Changsha City, Hunan Province, is one of the famous "four academies" in China.
Founded in the Northern Song Dynasty, it has gone through the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
With the educational system reform in the late Qing Dynasty, the abolition of academies and schools, the reform of institutions of higher learning after the Revolution of 1911, and even Hunan University, these institutions of higher learning have been located in Hunan for more than 1,000 years, reflecting the long history of the motherland's cultural and educational undertakings and are very precious cultural relics.
Yuelu Academy has continued the tradition of running schools and academic research for thousands of years since it was restored by Hunan University in the early 1980s. It has become a typical representative of the traditional functions of national academies and has been praised as "Millennium Academy" by the outside world.
