With the approval of the State Council, Chengdu University of Technology 1956 was established on the basis of engineering departments such as Chongqing University Geology Department, Nanjing University Geology Department and Northwest University Geology Department. At the same time, some cadres and teachers from Beijing Institute of Geology (now China University of Geology), Northeast Institute of Geology (now Jilin University) and Jiaotong University were transferred to form Chengdu Institute of Geology.
