Up to now, there are 1 12 "21/engineering" universities in China. These 1 12 universities have different natural strengths. Some media have divided these 1 12 colleges and universities into eight grades. Let's look at the grade distribution of each school.

Remarks: National University of Defense Technology is the National University of Defense Technology, the Second Military Medical University is the Naval Medical University, and the Fourth Military Medical University is the Air Force Medical University.
***2 institutes: Peking University and Tsinghua University.
Only Peking University and Tsinghua were initially recognized as "world-class universities" in the "985 Project", and almost all of them received the highest funding from the Ministry of Education. Therefore, these two universities are positioned as first-class universities-"national priority development universities".
2. State Key Construction University
***7 institutes: Nanjing University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China University of Science and Technology and Xi Jiaotong University.
Together with Peking University and Tsinghua, these seven universities are the first batch of "985 Project" universities confirmed by 1999.
3. Other vice-ministerial universities
***23, the so-called vice-ministerial colleges and universities, that is to say, their presidents, secretaries and other senior leaders are appointed by the Central Organization Department rather than the Ministry of Education.
Generally speaking, schools are introduced in the form of "directly under the central government", that is, vice-ministerial universities, also known as vice-ministerial universities.
4.985 grade main hall
***7 institutes: Minzu University of China, Northeastern University, China Ocean University, Hunan University, South China University of Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and East China Normal University.
Although these seven universities are also 985 engineering universities, they are not "deputy ministerial universities", so they are listed as the fourth-level universities.
5. "Characteristic 985" University
***36. "Characteristic 985" refers to "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". By the end of 20 1 1, there were 39 985 engineering universities. Since then, the Ministry of Education has indicated that the "985" project and the "2 1 1" project are stable in scale, and no more universities will be added.
Therefore, the dynamic competition mechanism is introduced to implement the "985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform" in the non-985 engineering universities affiliated to 21/kloc-0.
6. Other subordinates 2 1 1 University
***9. Universities directly under the Ministry refer to universities directly under the central departments (units) of People's Republic of China (PRC). 1 12 among engineering universities, 84 are subordinate universities.
Among them, 75 universities in the above five grades are all subordinate universities, and the remaining 9 subordinate 2 1 1 engineering universities are listed as the sixth grade universities.
7. Careless 2 1 1 University
***23.2 1 1 among engineering universities, 28 universities are provincial rather than subordinate.
To sum up, we can see that there is a gap between these institutions. The media listed 2 1 1 Engineering University as a seventh-grade university, which is not taken care of by the state.
8. Caring for 2 1 1 University
***5 institutes: Ningxia University, Hainan University, Qinghai University, Shihezi University and Tibet University. These five universities are the last batch (the fourth batch, in 2008) selected as "2 1 1 project", which has the nature of national policy care.
That is to say, the strength and level of these five universities can't reach the level of 2 1 1 engineering university, but considering the rationality of high-level university layout, each province should have at least 1 engineering university, so these five universities have entered the ranks of 21engineering university.
This stratification is reasonable to some extent, but considering that the quality of some universities is advancing by leaps and bounds and has advanced several levels, we should not take this stratification as an absolute quantitative index.
