Mao Yisheng (1896 ~ 1989), a native of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, was a pioneer of modern bridge industry in China, a pioneer of railway science and technology, and an outstanding engineering educator. In 1930s, he presided over the design and organized the construction of Qiantang River Highway-Railway Bridge, which became a milestone in the history of railway bridges in China and made outstanding contributions to bridge construction in China, and was called "the father of Chinese bridges".
