Yunnan Vocational College of Land and Resources is an independent state-owned public vocational college, with 7,800 full-time students, more than 3,200 adult education students and 398 faculty members. It is one of the first two full-time vocational colleges established in Yunnan Province, and also one of the first two "provincial demonstration vocational colleges" to be built. The College was formed by the merger of the Geological Technician College founded by 1958, the Staff College of the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources founded by 1974, and the Gemstone Middle School affiliated to the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources.

Over the years, relying on Yunnan's location and resource advantages, the College has followed the law of running schools, insisted on attaching equal importance to connotation construction and extension development, and insisted on cultivating higher vocational and technical applied talents based on the needs of land resources, geology and mineral industry and social and economic development. Now it has become the main training base for high-quality applied talents of land resources in Yunnan Province. The college has 13 teaching departments (departments and colleges) and 33 majors, 80% of which are resource exploration and resource utilization, and some majors fill the gap in the specialty setting of higher education in Yunnan Province.
