Xi 'an Jiaotong University, referred to as "Xi Jiaotong University", is located in Xi, the capital of Shaanxi Province. It is a national key comprehensive research university directly under the Ministry of Education and the Central Government of People's Republic of China (PRC). It was established by the Ministry of Education and the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.
