What does it mean that the school gradually cancels the punishment?
Take the management of college students as an example.

Legal basis: Regulations on the Administration of Students in Colleges and Universities in People's Republic of China (PRC) and Decree No.21of the Ministry of Education.

Fifty-third types of disciplinary action are divided into:

(1) warning;

(2) serious warning;

(3) recording a demerit;

(4) Stay in school for observation;

(5) expulsion from school.

The severity of the above five items increases in turn.

For example, it takes a period of "probation" to gradually revoke the punishment of "observation", and then it is reduced to "recording a demerit", and then it will be a "serious warning" after a period of time. . . Then there is a "warning", and finally the punishment is revoked.
