South China University of Technology, referred to as "South China University of Technology", is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the People's Government of Guangdong Province. It is a national key university determined by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government. Ranked among the national "double-class" (Class A), "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", and was selected for discipline innovation in colleges and universities.
South China University of Technology was established on the basis of the engineering departments and majors of Sun Yat-sen University, South China United University Institute of Technology, Lingnan University Institute of Technology and Guangdong Institute of Technology, and was transferred to some engineering departments and majors of five universities, including Hunan University, Zhonghua University in Wuchang, Wuhan Jiaotong University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University. It is one of the four major engineering institutes in New China. 1960 became a national key university; 1988 was renamed South China University of Technology.
