Donghua University, located in Shanghai, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), a national double-class construction university, 21/engineering construction university.

The history of the school can be traced back to Nantong Textile Printing and Dyeing Institute founded by Zhang Jian in 19 12. The school was founded in 195 1, named East China Institute of Textile Technology, which was formed by the merger of the Textile Department of Jiaotong University and other textile departments in East China, Central South and Southwest China. 1985 was renamed China Textile University, and 1999 was renamed Donghua University.
