The history of running a school can be traced back to the training course for Tibetan cadres founded by the troops who entered Tibet in 195 1. The school has gone through the development stages of Tibet Normal School and Tibet Normal College.

The history of running a school can be traced back to19511. The training course for Tibetan cadres, founded by the 18th Army of the People's Liberation Army of China, has gone through the development stages of Tibet Military Region cadre schools, Tibet local cadre schools and Tibet administrative cadre schools. 1965 and 1975, the school was upgraded to Tibet Normal School and Tibet Normal College. 1July, 1985, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was officially renamed Tibet University.
From 65438 to 0993, the College of Tibetan Medicine of Tibet University was independently established as Tibet College of Tibetan Medicine (now Tibet University of Tibetan Medicine). 1999, Xizang Autonomous Region Art School, Tibet Medical College, Tibet University for Nationalities Medical Department and Xizang Autonomous Region University of Finance and Economics were merged into Tibet University.
