Located in Hengyang City, Hunan Province, Nanhua University is a comprehensive university jointly established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, China National Nuclear Corporation, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, the National Health Commission and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. South China University is a multi-disciplinary university (founded in 1958) which was merged in May 2000 by Central South Institute of Technology, which was originally affiliated to the Ministry of Nuclear Industry, and Hengyang Medical College, which was originally affiliated to Hunan Province. From June 5438 to October 2002 10, the Sixth Research Institute of Nuclear Industry, which was originally affiliated to the Ministry of Nuclear Industry, was merged into the University of South China.
