The Department of Applied Mathematics was established in 200 1, which was composed of the former Mathematics Teaching and Research Section of the Foundation Department of Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Engineering and some teachers of the former Information Computing Science Department of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology. In 2004, the first undergraduate students majoring in mathematics and applied mathematics were enrolled. The major decided to take financial statistics as the major direction, rely on the main disciplines of the school, take the cultivation of applied talents as the breakthrough point, and seek a breakthrough in the basic research of applied mathematics, and gradually formed its own discipline characteristics and advantages.
After several years of accumulation, the Department of Applied Mathematics has laid a certain foundation in the construction of "Mathematics and Applied Mathematics" and has a team of teachers with rich teaching experience and high level. There are 29 teachers in the Department of Applied Mathematics (in addition, there are many teachers in the Department of Information and Computing Science in our college), including 7 associate professors. Most young teachers have master's degrees in mathematics, and five teachers are studying for doctoral degrees on the job. The Department of Applied Mathematics not only undertakes specialized courses in mathematics and applied mathematics, but also undertakes a large number of public mathematics courses such as advanced mathematics, linear algebra, probability and statistics, complex variable function, integral transformation, mathematical equations, and operational research.
The goal pursued by the department of applied mathematics is to ensure and steadily improve the teaching quality of public basic mathematics courses and gradually form its own characteristics. At the same time, give full play to the discipline characteristics of applied mathematics department, combine the development of applied mathematics discipline and specialty construction with the orientation of research universities, and ensure that the quality of talent training of mathematics and applied mathematics specialty is at the upper-middle level in similar universities in China, and constantly improve.
The main courses undertaken by the Department of Applied Mathematics include mathematical analysis, advanced algebra, spatial analytic geometry, probability theory, mathematical statistics, ordinary differential equations, mathematical modeling and mathematical software, numerical analysis, operation and optimization, management principles, time series, statistical software, mathematical finance, regression analysis, multivariate analysis, stochastic process, financial engineering, interest theory and application, life insurance actuarial, modern investment and analysis, financial management, etc.
Although the teaching task of our department is very heavy, the majority of teachers still actively carry out scientific research activities and have made many gratifying achievements in teaching and scientific research activities. In recent years, * * * has published more than 40 papers, and edited or participated in the publication of more than 0 textbooks/kloc-0. Organized our students to participate in the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students and the Higher Mathematics Competition for Non-science Colleges in Jiangsu Province, and achieved remarkable results.
The department of applied mathematics will try its best to provide better support for related disciplines in the school and accelerate the development of the specialty of "Mathematics and Applied Mathematics".
