The school's predecessor was 1956 Changchun Urban Construction Engineering School founded by the Ministry of Urban Construction. It is the first secondary specialized school of civil engineering in Jilin Province and one of the first ten specialized schools of architecture established in New China. 1960 school was upgraded to an undergraduate college, renamed Jilin Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and became the first civil engineering undergraduate college in Jilin Province. 20 13, the school officially changed its name to Jilin Jianzhu university.
Jilin Jianzhu University is an ordinary institution of higher learning in Jilin Province, which focuses on engineering, features civil architecture, and is supported and coordinated by science, engineering, literature, management, law, art and economics. It is a university jointly established by Jilin Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It is the first batch of 100 demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The school is located in the national high-tech industrial development zone-Changchun Jingyue High-tech Industrial Development Zone. There is Jingyuetan National 5A Forest Park in the east, Xinli Lake National Water Conservancy Scenic Area in the south and Yitong River, the mother river of Changchun, in the west. The school campus covers an area of 948,000 square meters with a total construction area of 454,000 square meters.
