There are two 2 1 1 universities in Xinjiang, one is Xinjiang University and the other is Shihezi University.

Xinjiang University ranks first, ranking 107 nationwide. In 1997, Xinjiang University/KLOC-0 was selected as the 2 1 1 Project, which has two national key disciplines: China minority languages and literature and applied mathematics. From 2065438 to June 2007, Xinjiang University was selected as a double-class university, standing at the same "starting line" as many 985 universities, and became one of the three 2 1 1 universities selected as a double-class university. Shihezi University ranked second, ranking 160 nationwide. Shihezi University is located in the Gobi Pearl in Shihezi City, Xinjiang.
