Chengdu Institute of Physical Education is the only higher physical education institution deployed by the state in southwest China, and it is one of the six physical education institutions directly under the former State Sports General Administration. The school, formerly known as Sichuan Institute of Physical Education, was founded in 1942. Now it is a college jointly established by Sichuan Province and the State Sports General Administration, and it is the oldest physical education college in China. The school headquarters is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, adjacent to the famous historical site Wuhou Temple.
The school has five key disciplines in Sichuan Province, three of which are key discipline construction projects in Sichuan Province; Sports and sports medicine are "double first-class" construction disciplines in Sichuan Province. There are more than 9,300 full-time undergraduates and more than 300 doctoral and master students 1.300.
