Harbin university of science and technology, located in Harbin, is a university founded by the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It has been selected into the "Basic Capacity Building Project in the Midwest" universities, the national "Key Discipline Project with Characteristics" universities and the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" universities of the Ministry of Education.
The "National Innovation Experiment Plan for College Students" of the Ministry of Education implements universities, scholarship receiving institutions of China government for overseas students, national new engineering research and practice projects, domestic "double-first-class" construction universities in Heilongjiang Province, and the first batch of demonstration universities for college curriculum and ideological and political construction in Heilongjiang Province, which are members of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance.
The school was formed by the merger of harbin university of science and technology, Harbin Institute of Electrical Engineering and Harbin Institute of Technology 1995. All three schools were established in the early 1950s. School 1998 was placed under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province, and the management system was jointly established by the central government and local governments, with local governments as the mainstay.
By March, 2023, the school has three campuses in Harbin, West, South and East, and four campuses in harbin university of science and technology Weihai, which is located in Rongcheng City, Shandong Province, with a total area of 6,543,800 square meters, teaching infrastructure area of 983,000 square meters and library collection of 2,678,000 books.
