The story of Olympic athletes winning gold medals
The first athlete to represent China in the Olympic Games: Liu Changchun (1909 ~ 1983).

Liu Changchun, 1909, a native of Jinxian County, Liaoning Province. He is good at sprinting. His technical characteristics are fast pace, long stride and good forward movement.

1929 From May 3/kloc-0 to June 2, at the 14 North China Games held in Shenyang, Liu Changchun broke the national records of 100 m, 200 m and 400 m in one fell swoop, with scores of 10.8 s and 22.4 s respectively. At that time, these results were very encouraging, because 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games 100 meter champion's performance was also 10.8 seconds.

1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. At that time, China originally planned to participate in the football match, because our football strength was second to none in the Far East. But Americans are not interested in football, so they cancel the football match and hold an American football exhibition match instead. Moreover, it was a time of economic depression, and the government had no extra funds to participate in the Olympic Games. The Ministry of Education decided not to participate in 1932 at the end of May. Only Shen Siliang, the director-general of the Chinese Olympic Committee (equivalent to the current secretary-general), was sent to represent President Wang at the annual meeting and opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee.

On June 12, Shanghai Daily published a news that shocked the whole country. It is reported that the LOCOG will accept the registration of "Manchukuo" and will represent China in the Olympic Games. Another news is that the puppet Manchukuo is holding Olympic trials.

A few days later, news from Changchun pointed out that the Puppet Manchukuo had decided to send two athletes, Wei and Liu Changchun, to Los Angeles to participate in the Japanese-led Olympic Games.

At that time, China's anti-Japanese sentiment was high, and Liu Changchun fled the northeast to Beiping shortly after the fall of the Northeast in May. In May, he issued a statement in Ta Kung Pao, pointing out that "I am a descendant of the Chinese nation and a native of China, and I will never represent the Japanese puppet Manchukuo in the 10th Olympic Games".

Forced by the times, in order to maintain China's international status, the Chinese Olympic Committee at that time thought that unless China sent athletes to participate in the Olympic Games, the Japanese attempt to support the puppet Manchukuo to replace China's status could be shattered, so it decided to send athletes to participate in the Olympic Games.

On June 25th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs got news from ioc headquarters that the puppet Manchukuo could not participate in the Olympic Games because it was not approved by the International Olympic Committee. The Preparatory Committee for the Los Angeles Olympic Games also issued a statement that the Puppet Manchukuo participated in the Olympic Games this time. At first, it was considered to participate in the Olympic Games with the flags of the United States and Britain, referring to the precedent of the Philippines and India, but both were signed by the statutory national Olympic organizations and recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The Puppet Manchukuo has not been recognized by the International Olympic Committee, nor can it be designated as a national sports institution and recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Of course, you are not eligible to participate.

At that time, the registration for the Olympic Games had ended on June 18, and the Chinese Olympic Committee sent an urgent telegram asking for accommodation. On 26th, I received a reply from the Preparatory Committee. The two contestants registered in our country are Liu Changchun and Yu Xiwei.

Liu Changchun was arranged to go to Shanghai for an internship, but Yu Xiwei was guarded by the Japanese army and could not leave the northeast, so Yu Xiwei failed to make it. When China first took part in the Olympic Games, there was only one athlete, Liu Changchun.

Traveling to America costs a lot of money. At that time, the Ministry of Education decided not to send players to participate in the competition, and there was no financial support. Fortunately, General Zhang Xueliang, then president of Northeastern University, came forward, and the funds were about 8,000 silver dollars, about 1500 US dollars, which was enough. /kloc-in July, Zhang Xueliang announced at the graduation ceremony of Northeastern University that Liu Changchun and Yu Xiwei were athletes and coaches of the Republic of China in the 10th Olympic Games.

After contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for assistance, Liu Changchun held a press conference in Shanghai on July 5, saying that he would try his best to serve the country. Hao Gengsheng, director of the Sports Association who went all out to raise money for Liu Changchun, pointed out at the meeting that Liu Changchun's participation in the Olympic Games was of far-reaching significance. First of all, Japan's international propaganda plot to fake Manchukuo must be eliminated; The second is to open a new era for China sports to participate in the Olympic Games, so that the national flag of the Republic of China can fly at the Olympic Games. Third, the strategy with the global youth sports circle; Fourth, observe the sports skills and strength of the Olympic Games; Fifth, we can take the opportunity to publicize Japan's evil deeds to young people all over the world.

On July 6th and 7th, the Shanghai press, sports circles and organizations held a farewell party for Liu Changchun, which was attended by nearly 2,000 people. On July 8th, Liu Changchun and Song set off from Shanghai by cruise ship and went to Los Angeles, USA, to launch the maiden voyage of China Olympic Games.

When the cruise ship passed Kobe, a Japanese reporter boarded the ship and asked if Liu Changchun represented Manchukuo in the Olympic Games. Liu Changchun immediately replied: "I am from China, and of course I represent Greater China." Soon the cruise postman sent a telegram, which was sent by the Japanese Sports Association to Manchukuo Olympic athletes to win a great victory. Liu Changchun replied angrily, "There are only representatives of the Republic of China on board, and there is no representative of Manchukuo", and sent a telegram back.

After a 2 1 day sea trip, the cruise ship arrived in Los Angeles on July 29th and was warmly welcomed by the staff of the Preparatory Committee and overseas Chinese. Members of the Preparatory Committee used police cars to clear the way and sent them to the athletes' village. The opening ceremony will be held the next afternoon.

On the day of the opening ceremony, Liu Changchun held the national flag, surrounded by Song and Shen Siliang, as well as overseas Chinese and YMCA directors and Shen He who were temporarily brought to Los Angeles to avoid being too lonely. This is the beginning of China's first Olympic Games.

After floating at sea for three weeks, Liu Changchun's physical strength was greatly affected. So he originally applied for three events, and he only participated in 100 meters and 200 meters, and 400 meters did not participate because of physical exhaustion. The two events I participated in were the last in the group and failed to advance.

After the game, Liu Changchun was unable to return home because of insufficient travel expenses. Later, he returned to China with the donation of local overseas Chinese.

1933 In the 5th National Games, Liu Changchun set two national records of 10.7 seconds and 22.0 seconds, and won the championship. Among them, the record of 10.7 seconds 100m was kept for 25 years, and it was not until 1958 that it was broken by the new China athlete Liang Jianxun.

1936, Liu Changchun represented China for the second time in 1 1 Olympic Games. Similarly, due to the stormy waves of 28 days, he spent a lot of energy and failed to achieve good results.

Since 1930s, Liu Changchun has worked as a sports assistant, lecturer and associate professor in Northeastern University, Beijing Normal University and Northeast Zhongzheng University. His main works are "Track and Field Guidance Law" and "Track and Field Referee Law".

1983 March 2 1 day, Liu Changchun died at the age of 74.

The documentary "One Man's Olympics" has been filmed, and jacques rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, wrote the English title for it.
