Before Suzhou University of Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province: Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (24th in the province), followed by Nantong University (26th in the province).

Suzhou University of Science and Technology was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and the former Suzhou Railway Teachers College. It is a full-time ordinary university with the coordinated development of engineering, science, literature and management, and it is an excellent undergraduate teaching university evaluated by the Ministry of Education. 20 17 became a university jointly established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Jiangsu Province, and in the same year, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees in Jiangsu Province, which was awarded to the project construction unit.
