Anhui University is a national "double-class" university jointly established by Anhui Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education, and it is a key comprehensive university in Anhui Province.
As the beginning of modern higher education in Anhui, the school was founded in Anqing, the then provincial capital, from 65438 to 0928. During the Anti-Japanese War, the school was forced to move westward and was once scattered. 1946 resumed school and became the national Anhui university.
1949 moved to Wuhu in February, and after several adjustments, 1956 moved to Hefei, and 1958 fully resumed enrollment. On September 6th, 1958, Comrade Mao Zedong wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting. With the great progress of China's reform, opening up and modernization, the school has entered the fastest and best period in history, especially after entering the ranks of the national "2 1 1 project" university construction, and achieved leap-forward development.

Some departments of the school can be traced back to the National Anhui University founded in Anqing in April 1928, which is the beginning of modern higher education in Anhui Province. Anhui University was established on the basis of Hefei College and some departments of the former National Anhui University in June 1958. In September of the same year, President Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school, which is still in use today.
