Capital Institute of Physical Education is the only higher physical education institution in Beijing. Founded in 1956, formerly known as "Beijing Sports School". 1960 In March, with the approval of Beijing Municipal People's Government, it was restructured into "Beijing Physical Education Teachers College" and became an undergraduate college. 1962 merged into Beijing Normal University in July. In February, 1979, "Beijing Physical Education Teachers College" resumed classes. In May 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed as "Capital Institute of Physical Education".
The school has three campuses: Headquarters Campus, North Campus and Fenghuangling Campus. There are nearly 4,700 students in school, including nearly 2,800 undergraduates, nearly 650 doctoral and master students, nearly 800 adult education students, nearly 350 students in competitive sports schools and nearly 100 international students.
At present, the school has two master's degree authorization points in sports and psychology, six master's degree authorization points in two disciplines in sports education and training, sports anthropology, sports humanities and sociology, traditional sports, sports rehabilitation and sports psychology, and two master's degree authorization points in sports and journalism and communication.
